Visitors entering Sharpsburg will notice something a little different when entering the city limits from here on out. The Town has recently erected several signs at all major entrance points into the town. Read the notes from the opening ceremony below to learn more.
Welcome: Board of Commissioners, Mr. Willard Barnes: Vice President of Southern Bank, and Miss Cindy Tharrington: Branch Manager of Sharpsburg Southern Bank.
Southern Bank & Trust is the third oldest state-chartered commercial bank in North Carolina that has served the Sharpsburg community since 2000. Southern Bank has shown its Southern Hospitality in this community by annual contributions to the Sharpsburg Christmas Parade; in April they held their first Educational Fair at the Town Hall to provide citizens with information on services they offer and how to assess those services. Today we are being awarded a grant for project, “Operation Beautiful Sharpsburg” that was launched about a year ago for the erection of 2 town signs. The goal of the project is to clean up Highway 301 so that it reflects the pride and hospitality of this community, making Sharpsburg “Sharp” once again as it prepares itself for economic growth and development in future endeavors.
An Eagle Scout, by the name of Alex Kline, wanted to do his part, he saw the need for many improvements as well, he decided to construct four signs then donated them to the Town, for that we are very thankful and as quoted in the good book Isaiah 11:6, “Truly a child shall lead the way.” Sharpsburg has six points of entrance the four donated signs will cover the two east points located on Batchelor Road and County Line Road; and the two west points on Sharpe Road and Millbranch Road.
Thanks to Southern Bank we are able to erect two signs on the north and south entrances of Highway 301. The signs reflect the Town’s new logo that was designed and adopted over a year ago. The Mayor and Board of Commissioners, Staff and Citizens want to thank Southern Bank for partnering with our community.
Special Thanks Goes to Glasgow Signs and Sharpsburg Public Director & Staff
