Street Maintenance
Storm Water Study
The Town of Sharpsburg has completed a recent Storm Water Study. The purpose of the study was to assess our current storm water issues. In this document you will see that there are recommendations that have been provided to the Board of Commissioners in terms of funding and resources needed to address Storm Water issues. At this time, the Town of Sharpsburg Board of Commissioners is actively seeking changes through policy and funding options to address our Town’s need around Storm Water. What is Stormwater Runoff?
Stormwater runoff is precipitation from rain or snow that does not soak into the ground. Impervious surfaces such as driveways, parking lots, roads, sidewalks, streets and roofs prevent stormwater runoff from naturally soaking into the ground. Stormwater runoff from intense rainfall can at times exceed the carrying capacity of the Town’s drainage system, creating a backup in the system, flooding of roads, yards, and businesses.
Report an Issue with Storm Water
For public right-of-way maintenance issues and to report clogged, non-functioning or damaged storm drains, contact the Public Works Department. Do not place grass clippings, leaves, brush, or other items that would restrict water flow in ditches or the street curb and gutter area. Yard debris items should be placed on the edge of the front yard, and off the street pavement for collection. This will help to prevent clogged storm drain systems.
